Heyouki // Danny Burrito at The Cloak and Dagger
The Cloak and Dagger welcomes you to an evening of positive thought in the form of Hip-Hop and Jazz.
A Neo-Soul/Contemporary Jazz 7-piece, purveying sultry grooves and improvised camaraderie, Heyouki collaborates as a larger collective amalgamated by friends from the Bristol Jazz and Hip-Hop jam scene.
Sonically, Heyouki experiments with simple yet deep-in-feel Hip Hop rhythms, culminated with complex time signatures and rudiments, layered with thick Jazz harmony.
Influenced by the sounds of D’angelo, Erykah Badu, J Dilla and alike, their ethos and lyrical subject matter is a nod in the direction to the culture that inspired their sound. Their voices are a catalyst, raising issues in inequality, while striving to break the stigma centred around mental health in conversation.
Bristol based Danny Burrito is fast emerging as one of the most exciting and explosive rappers in Bristol.
Danny’s versatility, coupled with his ability to dissect and rhythmically redesign sentences are attributes that Danny learned from his influences, ranging from the likes of Chance the Rapper, MF Doom, and Eminem, to artists such as Wretch 32, Kano and The Streets.
As a new member of the Heyouki Collective, Danny’s set will open and blend the evening, keeping the vibes flowing.
